Flashy hotel but no service

Hotel Review
Type of Trip: Umrah
What Year Did you Stay?: 2008
Cons (Negative aspects of Hotel): What a Hotel, but no service at all. We stayed in a Suite on the 31st floor, great views of the Haram and Mecca including the mountains. The rooms were really accomodating to stay in, but no service at all. House-keeping was really terrible, as the room was not cleaned on time. When I arrived and checked in, the air-con in the suite was not working, the kitchen light not working and the small bar fridge was empty with no cooldrinks or eats. The bathrooms have no shower doors, so when having a shower the bathroom is totally flooded with water, we had to place towels all around the bathroom floor. I complained to the management but no joy as they all speak arabic. Breakfast was a nightmare, always full, no available tables to sit, as when I complained I was told that all the guests from Safa Tower were using Zam Zam Towers breakfast floor as they did not have one. Also when arriving, no welcome, no greating, no source of appreciation... When checking out a total disaster, no bellman (porters available), I had to carry 6 bags all by myself to the lobby, then to the ground floor where my taxi was waiting for over an hour. I ended up getting to Jeddah Airport late, missed our flight, and had to spend 2 nights in Jeddah. I understand the building is new and there are a lot of teething problems, but com'on guys you can do better for such an eloborate hotel

Probably the best hotel in Makkah

Hotel Review
Type of Trip: Hajj
What Year Did you Stay?: 2007
Pros (Positives about the Hotel): Stayed here as part of my Hajj package and while it was still not fully finished then (some rooms on our floor had yet to be fitted out) it was good enough too eclipse both the Hilton and the Dar Al Tawhid (Intercontinental), the only other five star hotels that are as close to the Haram.
Cons (Negative aspects of Hotel): Be aware though, that you have to walk into the Abraj Al Bait Shopping Center, take a lift up to the 11th floor reception, go through reception and take a lift up another 15 or so floors to your room which can distort the true comparison of distances of hotels to the haram.
