Hotel Review
Type of Trip: Umrah
What Year Did you Stay?: 2009
Pros (Positives about the Hotel): Very close to the Masjid and other amenities. Staff are very polite and helpful, most of them speak English too which was a plus. Access to elevators are good and waiting times were kept to a minimum. Rooms were very spacious.
Cons (Negative aspects of Hotel): Maybe room should have been checked over prior to the keys being given to me as there were no towels in the bathrooms. They were however provided promptly after a quick call to housekeeping. Room I was given I had to climb and extra flight of stairs.

A Good Place to Stay

Hotel Review
Type of Trip: Hajj
What Year Did you Stay?: December 2008
Pros (Positives about the Hotel): This review is based upon a stay in Tower 3. Each of the towers may be different. Also keep in mind that the Towers are different from the actual Hilton.

1. Right across the street from the Haram

2. Rooms are clean and are cleaned daily. (Apparently renovations have occurred so previous reviews may not be accurate).

3. Bathroom facilities are top notch. Great shower.

4. Elevators are OK. Sometimes they are smelly

5. There is a masjid in the hotel with views of the Haram for men. For women there is also a prayer area but no views.

6. There are views of the Haram (but not the Kaba from my window) so you can see how crowded things are. Because of the proximity you can also pray in your room and hear the imam.
Cons (Negative aspects of Hotel): 1. To get to the hotel you have to walk through the shopping mall which is crowded and dirty with people sitting on the floor and eating.

2. WiFi in my room was not working and management did not seem to care.

3. Restaurant associated with hotel was in the mall and a bit separated from the hotel.

Hotel Review
Type of Trip: Umrah
What Year Did you Stay?: 2008
Pros (Positives about the Hotel): We stayed at the Hilton Hotel in Makkah earlier this week, and I can safely say that it is one of the best possible accomodatyions in the Holy City!

The good points :
1. Opposite the Haram!
2. Next to the hotel is the large shopping mall which has a lot of shops some of which open 24 hours a day.
3. Bin Dawood which is a large supermarket is also in that mall, so one can buy all things required for the stay next door and does not have to tow all the things back to your hotel room.
4. Nice breakfast.
5. Large rooms with good helpful staff. We were travelling with 2 infants and all our requests for hot water to make the baby formula were attanded very promptly and courteously!
6. Good food in room service.

Overall I would recommend the Hiton Makkah hotel as a great place to stay in the wonderful city!

Renovated Towers

Hotel Review
Type of Trip: Umrah
What Year Did you Stay?: 2008
Pros (Positives about the Hotel): We stayed in the towers in 2006 for Hajj and then in 2008 for Umrah. The towers have gone a major renovation (in the rooms) and are quite nice. Probably upto par to the regular Hilton itself.
Cons (Negative aspects of Hotel): Elevator speed still seem to be a hurdle.

Excellent for Umrah in non-peak season

Hotel Review
Type of Trip: Umrah
What Year Did you Stay?: November 2007
Pros (Positives about the Hotel): I stayed in this hotel twice, just before the Hajj season of 2007. I booked the hotel through Expedia, and it was a steal at $95. The reception staffs were professional, and very helpful. The bell boy was ready to help. The first night I stayed was about 20 days before Hajj, and the room was nicely appointed. I returned in 5 days, and the room was prepared for 4 beds, getting ready for Hajj. Both the times I had excellent experience. The Kaba view room had a view of the top of the Kaba only. At the ground floor, there are plenty of eating places. The bathroom and the kitchen part were very good. One thing you should remember, during Hajj expect some mismanagement, as the hotel is booked 4 times its capacity. This is true with all the hotels. You are not for vacation, but for ibadat.
Cons (Negative aspects of Hotel): These towers are a maze. I have good sense of directions, but it took some effort to find the entrances and exits. The hotel layout is confusing. After getting off the elevators, I had to walk a distance, cross a wooden door, and then climb a narrow flight of stairs to reach to my room. If you have heavy luggage, you will need help. I feel the elevators could be tight during Hajj or Ramadan Umrah. Please plan on going to the masjid ahead of time, just to avoid the crowds in the elevators. I had little problem, as I was for umrah in a non-peak season.
